Mother Brain – Combine in a cocktail shaker: ice, 1.5 oz vodka, 1.5 oz green apple liqueur, splash of grenadine. Shake and strain into a low ball glass. Add 3 maraschino cherries and fill glass to volume with Sprite. Finish with a splash of grenadine and stir. Tuck into your morph ball and enjoy!
>>> Thanks Skyler!
Metroid – Combine in a low ball glass: 0.75 oz Bacardi Big Apple rum, 0.75 oz coconut rum, 1/2 glass strawberry-kiwi sparkling juice, 1/2 glass Sprite. Stir gently, then float 3 strawberries upside-down in the glass. Caution: This cocktail will attach itself to your face hole.

Robinette Cellars’ Apple Blueberry Cider – Oh, blueberries… Why do you not blend well with alcohol? The taste of this organic hard cider from Robinette Cellars can most aptly be summed up by Steve’s immediate thought after his first sip: “It happened.” Truer words have never been spoken. With a complete lack of body and flavor, this beverage has less presence in the mouth than water… or air, for that matter. As Steve had indicated, the only thing one can be certain of after consumption is that there is less volume in the bottle.
Consensus score – 1/5 (because we don’t have a lower score)

Rogue’s Hazelnut Brown Nectar – If you like lattes, then we assure you: You will love this beer! Rogue produces some of the best beers to come out of Oregon, and this brown ale is no exception. An extremely well-balanced body delivers a pleasant amount of hops and malt. But the real strength of this beer lies in the finish: A clean mocha taste that doesn’t over-tax your palette, which leaves slowly and just in time for the next sip! With an ABV of 6.2%, you’d be hard-pressed to find a barista who serves this treat.
Consensus score – 4/5
Scotty’s Drink of the Week from the 2014 Predictions episode of Sanity Claws Radio!
Bell’s Cherry Stout – It’s a new year and a new format for cocktails! We start the year with a tart stout from right here in Michigan. Body checking its way in at 7.0% ABV, your taste buds had better be looking for a boarding penalty. A darkness that indicates flavorful depth, this stout feints and lands a single uppercut of cherry tartness. If this blow doesn’t knock your footwear off, then nothing about this beer will. Bell’s has brewed this beer with cherry juice, which is good if you like cherries more than dark beer.
Scotty – 3/5

Steve – Too sick to weigh in
On this week’s episode of Sanity Claws Radio, Steve takes us on a survey-level course in liquors. Tune in and you might actually learn something!
A generous gift from the Surly Beer, DGR, and Extended Roundtable episode of Sanity Claws Radio!
Surly Beer – A Minnesota brewery founded on the inspiration from Munich’s Hofbrau Haus, Surly Brewing Company clearly takes pride in their craft. A regional gem, we don’t hesitate to say that this beer is the best thing to come out of the Land of 10,000 Lakes. EVER. Beer for a glass, from a can? Their simple slogan belies their brewing philosophy: Unassuming, yet unforgettable!
If you ever run across this beer, BUY IT! And then send us 20 more cans…

Jamaican Snake Bite – Add 1.5 oz spiced rum to a 12 – 16 oz glass of Jamaican lager. Exercise caution as this one goes down far too easily. Also, make sure to… Is that Tiny Gandalf ruining another picture? Unbelievable!

Drink 1: Man, F**k You Scotty – Pour 0.5 oz gin into shot glass. Top with milk. Drink it and feel the Canadian hate from over a thousand clicks away, as if it was right next to you. (Is that tiny Gandalf? What’s he doing? He’d better be careful…)
Drink 2: I Love You Scotty – Pour whatever you want into your mouth. You’ve earned it, kimosabe.

Fall Beer 2013
New Belgium – Pumpkick Ale takes the pumpkin ale approach and mellows it out with the addition of cranberry and pumpkin juices. The resulting beer is smooth with a slightly spicy finish. New to Michigan this year, it’s certainly worth a try. ABV – 6.0%
Founders Brewing – Rubaeus Raspberry Ale is much akin to a sparkling raspberry juice. Add a very malty body and a tart finish and you’ve got a beer that nicely transitions the pallet from summer beer to fall beer. ABV – 5.7%
Arcadia Ales – Jaw-Jacker Pumpkin Spiced Ale has no pumpkin in it, despite the name. Instead, the craft brewers at Arcadia Ales have combined an Amber-Wheat ale with a myriad of spices, including cinnamon and nutmeg, to create this spicy autumn treat! If you like spicy, you’ll like this one. ABV – 6.0%
Scotty’s Drink of the Week from the Board Games episode of Sanity Claws Radio!
Onigairi – Thought you had seen the last of the Rip-It themed energy drink cocktails? No such luck my friend! In a tall Collins glass, add ice, 1 oz raspberry vodka, 1 oz blue pucker, and 6 oz of 3-Way Rip-It. We’re pretty sure this drink is named in tribute to an anime, but we’re not sure which one. So, we’re just going to go with what we know: It’s ok if you don’t have enough Rupees to buy the red potion from the old man; there’s a discount option available!
This cocktail surprised us by actually being pretty smooth with a clean mixed berry flavor! If you… Oh. Is that curdled Cement Mixer in the background? Gross.
